Can women over 50 do P90X?
Before I started this journey with P90X, I have to admit that I did a lot of internet searching and research. I was curious if other women my age had tackled this intense program. While I have always been active and worked out…. I had not done any serious working out in over two years. So the question remained: Can a perimenopausal, out of shape, overweight woman jump into P90X… an advertised workout regiment designed to get you “ripped” in 90 days. I found that a few already had. There were not many, but I felt that if they could do it, so could I and I love a challenge! So, I ordered the program and impatiently waited for it to arrive. Once here, I couldn’t wait to get started. I will admit that the first 2 to 3 weeks were tough. It proved that I was even more out of shape than I thought I was. I barely passed the fit test (in fact couldn’t do even one pull up), had trouble with completing even the jumping jacks, and had to stop frequently to catch my breath… what the heck did I get myself into???! Well, I have just started phase 3… and what a difference 2 months make. I can now complete every workout without stopping, I’m doing all pushups on my toes (not my knees), I crush the AbRipperX workout, and reallyI’m really looking forward to this last month. I’ve made great progress, both physically and mentally. I feel stronger, have more energy, and definitely do NOT feel 50! I still have some weight to lose, but I’m so pumped that I can regain the strength, tone and energy that I thought might be gone forever. This is just the beginning of my journey… I truly want to see how far I can push my body and prove that a woman over 50 can still look great in a bikini! A great plus? I was having shoulder pain that has now resolved. I listened to Tony Horton who constantly reminds you to “do your best, and forget the rest”. He shows modifications and encourages you to rest when you need it. I initially took advantage of his “permission”, but now I’m determined to work through to the end. I do work long hours, and I will admit that it is hard to workout at 9:30pm… sometimes those workouts are not my best… but I keep “pushing play” and I”m happy with my progress.
So to answer the question… Can women over 50 do P90X? My answer is ABSOLUTELY!
